    These great Rural Skills Programs are funded by the Department of Innovation, Industry and Regional Development. This program aims to strengthen links between community and the environment and is a partnership of Kinglake Landcare Group, Permaculture Kinglake Ranges,KANDO and Kinglake Ranges Neighbourhood House.
    The Preserve Club
    Come and use some great preserving Kits to make your own beautiful preserved fruit and vegetables, jams and Chutneys in time for Christmas. This is an informal group that will learn the art of preserving together. All equipment and materials provided. You don't need experience just book in and come along.

    Backyard Bee Keeping
    Tutor:  Sue Zuber
    Cover the basic principles of beekeeping (European honey bees) over two sessions.  Participants will be guided through the intricate tightrope walk of keeping bees as a hobby.  Enjoy the quirky queen and explore her doting subjects.  Topics covered include equipment and clothing, the life cycle of the bees, the legal issues, swarm prevention and management, re-queening, honey production and robbing, opening a hive, pests and diseases, etc.

    Leadlighting
    Tutor:  Meredith King
    Meredith has designed many beautiful and diverse pieces of Leadlighting and is now keen to share her experience and get an enthusiatic group together in her local community.  This course covers beginners to the more advanced.

    Botanical Illustration Continued..
    Tutor:  Dianne Emery - Friends of the Royal Botanic Gardens
    Fo those that have completed Botanical art Introduction.  This course builds on developed skills of pencil, pen and wtercolour.  Participants will be working on individual project pieces of their choice.  Materials list to be supplied upon enrolment.

    Tenderbreak Permaculture Farm
    **Permaculture in Action Tour**
    Learn about the Permaculture principles used in the Tenderbreak design and how these can help you lead a more sustainable lifestyle in the city of the country.  Situatied in the Yarra Valley, Tenderbreak Permaculture farm has almost completed their mud brick home and 3 acres of food prodction gardens.
    Features of the tour include:
    • Pasive solar house design
    • Designing houses to resist fire and numberous bushire defence systems including a fire shelter
    • Grey and black water worm farm treatment system
    • Fresh water and garden irrigation reticulation systems
    • Large organic vegetable garden
    • Pultry pens with a flock of free range hens and ducks
    • And much more....

    This is the certificate required for woking in the Hopsitality industries and covers businesses such as restarants, cafes and hotels.  This certificate is also transferrable with the Retail industries such as supermarkets, stores, grocers and delicatessens.

    Food Safety Supervisor Certificate - SITXFSA001A
    Tutor: CEACA
    Implement food safety procedures is based around the HACCP system and fulfills the legistlavtive requirements for your business.  You will develop a safety plan with assistance after the formal session.  You may complete your plan online or complete written assessments.
    *Must have completed Floow Workplace Hygiene

    Farm Chemical Users Course
    Tutors: Keven Chandler, NMIT
    This course provides accredited training on safe use, handling, storage, transport and application of agricultural chemicals.  Once completed participants will be eligible for the Victorian Agricultural Chemical Users Permit (ACUP) license.  Training will involve theory and practice.

    Introduction to Fauna of Kinglake
    Tutors: Peter Homan, RMIT
    Learn about the hidden gems of the bush in this introcution of Fauna Investigation.  The course will involve a single theory day, then participants will have the opportunity to take part in a weekend survey of Number 2 Creek, Kinglake.
